docx file attachment

My daughter has received 2 email attachments re a job application. We have managed to open one using word viewer but the other one "docx" just opens as a lot of gobbledy gook Any suggestions ? or is the file corrupted?

docx is the Office 2007 file extension. Ask the sender to save the file as .doc and send it to you again.

No docx is the way office 2007 format word files -most annoying. If you have a friend with office 2007 which is more up to date then yours I expect -email them the files and ask them to open them, save as word97-2003 doc and email them back to you. Alternatively see this Ways to open Office .docx documents .

I don't have office 2007 and don't know anyone who has. Not sure what to do but I think she will have to phone them and get them to send it again as a .doc file. It seems a bit silly that the other attachment from the same people was a .doc but this one is .docx !

Many thanks Brian I've used the link and received the converted file back. It is a job application form but the converted file cannot be edited, ie my daughter can't fill it in and email it back, is there any way she can do that?

Done it and sent it back, the file had a password on it so I removed it so you can edit the file now, also all the font was messed up on the file so I corrected that with Arial font.

Any probs give me a shout, you got my email.
