I don't know the answer, but I don't think the operating systems are as important as what version of Word and what version of Open Office you have.

I cant see why you couldnt Glen. I used to have so many probs sending and receiving stuff in works and then not being able to open word docs until I got OO. Now they open automatically in OO.

You can also download a word viewer.

Doh. I never thought of that option.

After much deliberating i'm going to ask my new found rellie to send the life story of our granny to me, he says there is so much he would need to add it to a memory stick and it's in Word format. Then i remembered my Windows office suite has now expired so i'm using OO instead and the panic set in :o

          Hi Glen
If Your Rellie has saved it using the latest Word it will be saved by default as .DOCX , Open office can not open .DOCX , but if they save it as .DOC or .RTF Open Office will open it ok.

            Thanks Ken

I'll chance him sending the stuff on stick and at least i can transfer it, after that i can worry about trying to open it afterwards.

If it is a docx file you can use this site to convert your file for free

As long as it is a .doc file why don't you ask him to zip it and he can then send it easily by email. No chance of the mail man losing the stick then.
