Firefox ?? a silly question

I am still having trouble with IE so have downloaded Firefox onto this laptop and cant understand why the pages scroll so slowly ,so a daft question when you are going to scroll a page do you use the left side of the mouse or the wheel in the centre ?????
I normally use the left side of mouse on IE and it speeds along but not on Firefox ??
