  • Trying to read certificate

    Hi all,
i have attached an image of part of a birth certificate i have got. the problem is i cannot read what it all says, i have worked out,
    "Elizabeth Carpenter formerly -----"
its the last word there which is proving too hard to read.
This might be helpful but elizabeth carpenter married john carpenter in 1952, the carpenter family at originated in france so i was thinking that elizabeths maiden name might be of french origin as well.
i could be far off track but thats logic for you.
any suggestions would be gratefully received
    thanks
    emma

Right way round and with a negative version as well. Monakton? Monokton? Or as the last three letters 'low' or 'lew'? ...Dugless

            Ooh that could be it!

This could be a Monckton-Carpenter marriage:

            Mar 1842
            ATLEE Maria Newington 4 263
BAKER Mary Ann Newington 4 263
            BARRETT Eliza Newington 4 263
Briggs George Joseph Newington 4 263
            Carpenter John Newington 4 263
            GALPIN Francis Newington 4 263
            Holliday Thomas Newington 4 263
            LANGSTON Ann Newington 4 263
            MONCKTON Elizabeth Newington 4 263

Emma, when you said 1952 did you mean 1852?

              That's what I thought.

Is it not an English/Welsh cert? I can't find any ref to a birth in the name Carpenter mmn Monc* in the post 1916 stuff on Ancestry.

cloggie yep your right i should have put 1852, i was getting my years confused. this is a birth certificate for england. it was one of their children.
i was tying myself up in knots trying to read it but the suggestions you have offered look a lot better to have a look from
