  • .lst extension

I have astack of files in "my documents" with .lst extensions.

I can't open them as I get a message saying they can't be opened because the computer doesn't know what created them.

    Any ideas???

I think they could be family history files as the seem to have names pertaining to FH.

    They're created by FTM.

If I remember rightly, each FTW file has a matching .lst file.

Thanks Mary.............Does that mean I can delete them????

I have my trees on Legacy and only play every so often with FTM.

You can delete them unless they're associated with a file that's still in use. For example, if you have an ariel.ftw file, you can't delete ariel.lst, otherwise your ariel file won't work (I think).

          Only on FTM?????

It would still work on Legacy I think..

No idea - I've never used Legacy, and I've never tried deleting an FTM .lst file to see what happens.

I can't imagine that deleting a file created by FTM will affect your Legacy files, though.

Best thing to do is Backup your Legacy Files First, and then delete, at least you'll save all your hardwork

I delete the .lst files and every FTW file opens OK afterwards.

I think they are created when you first open the Gedcom file, and are not used after that.
