  • Missing Sister c1880

Can anyone help find a missing relative.

William Thomas Corby b1845 Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, d1938 Canada married 1869 Grantham, England to Ann Maria Waring b1848 Leicestershire, Packington d1883 Canada.
William and Ann had four sons
    William b1873 England, d1921 Canada.
    Frank b1875 England, d1955 Canada.
    Edward b1878 England, d1958 Canada.
    Richard b1883 Canada, d 1935 USA.
They left England for Canada 1880, I have two reference to a sister Mrs Robert Taylor Seattle Wa. In two of her brothers obituaries, one in her fathers probate and a fourth in a cemetery journal makes mention of five children left behind when her mother Ann Maria died after giving birth in 1883.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    With every good wish

Do you have them on a passenger list for the trip to Canada, as that would tell you how many children they took with them?

I have not been able to find them on a list, I took the 1880 from one of the Canadian census. There was never a mention of a daughter, i just happened on the references to her, as I researched the family.

There is a William Cory shown travelling in May 1880

Name: Wm Cory born c 1845
Date of Arrival: 23 May 1880
                      Vessel: Sardinian
Search Ship Database: View the 'Sardinian' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
                      Port of Arrival: Quebec, Quebec
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England; Londonderry, Ireland
                      Roll: C-4530

The image is very bad. I wonder if William went ahead of the rest of the family. I can't see him when I search on the vessel Circassian which the rest of the family travelled on.

Many thanks, for your help and interest in my family.
I'm wondering if William Thomas went ahead of the family to Canada, while Ann Maria waited in England for the birth of Sarah. I can't imagine traveling at that time with five kids, a new born and four other in tow. I would not attempt that even today.

                                With every good wish

If anyone who has access to USA records would be kind enough to have a look for Ann Maria I'd be very grateful.

If I look at the 1910, 1920, and 1930 census for Robert Taylor in Seattle, I see one with a wife named Annie M. Taylor. There is no Robert Taylor with wife Sarah.

Furthermore, this Annie M. Taylor was born in England. So I believe this must be my Ann Corby. According to those census records, she was born approximately 1874.

Unfortunately I did not find a death date in Washington for Ann (Annie/Anna) Taylor. I checked the Washington Death Index on microfilm from 1953-1979.

I did find an obituary for Robert K. Taylor, who I believe was her husband. He died14 January 1940 in Seattle.

Curiously, his obituary does not mention Annie or any other wife. But I am fairly positive this is the husband since according to census, his middle initial was K, and he was born in Ohio.
