  • DNA Testing

    Hi there everyone
Does anyone know about DNA testing for genealogy purposes, accuracy, etc.
I'm not sure how it works but I would like to know if there is anyone on a DNA database who is related to me!
    Thanks.

I don't believe in DNA testing for genealogical purposes as the results are usually so vague. Far better to spend the money on certificates and look for contacts with the same relatives.

DNA testing does have a place, but really only if you ask it the right question, which is "Am I related to person A OR am I related to person B?"

I have seen one or two "One Name" DNA studies and the results range from extremely interesting to downright useless. (You share a common ancestor with X 10,000 years ago)

And the problem is that most family historians want to know if gt gt gt grandad really WAS their gt gt gt grandad, but chances of getting an exhumation order (assuming you know where he's buried) to get a sample to test DNA are zilch!
