    hi all

i have hit a total brick wall looking for the births/baptism of my ggg grandparents.

They are James gadson mecham (1785) and Letitia butler (1787)

They married at st Leonard's, shoreditch in 1805

I have the burial record for James in 1826 at protestant dissenters burial ground, Gibraltar row, bethnal green aged 41

and Letitia's death cert, derbyshire street, Bethnal green, died of cholera in 1849.

On the 1841 census, Letitia is listed as not of this county (middx)

i have all the children from the marriage and they are all on census. and each one baptised at spitalfields, Christ church.

can anyone please help me with where to search from here for the births, i have tried IGI and ancestry and others, there must be something out there that i just cant see but not for the want of trying.
Cant understand why James was buried in dissenters burial either.

    my head hurts

I've just answered this on another site.

As for the burial, James may have become a dissenter, or he may always have been a dissenter but found it practical to marry and have his children baptised in a C of E church.

Wouldn't they have had to get married in a C of E church whether they liked it or not, in 1805?

Have you tried on the BMD Registers site, which specialises in non-conformists?
BMD Registers: The Official Non-Parochial BMDs Service
Not all baptisms are available online (yet), so failing that, you might have to search through parish registers in record offices to find them.

yes i have used that site, its where i got james' burial record, but it throws nothing for a baptism.
