  • Help me find Zusman!

    Husband's gt gt grandfather.

He was registered at birth as Zusman, but his name has been recorded as Zuzman, Zuesman, Zuseman etc as well as being mistranscribed as Quisnan, Luisman, Luzman, Tuesman etc.

I know he was alive 1909 as his wife Julia died then and is described as "wife of" on her death cert. Her death was registered in Strand reg district and Zusman is described as a "master fishmonger". Address on the death cert was 16 Mercer Chambers, Neal Street London, and Zusman had run fried fish shops in St Giles High Street and Monmouth Street.

1901 Zusman is at Long Acre.

I can't find a death for him nor can I find him in 1911 census.

He was born 101 Middlesex Street and on censuses it says birthplace as Whitechapel (1861-81) and Aldgate (1891-1901).

    Any help gratefully received.

There's a Lipman Hart in 1911 who is a fishmonger......? Living in Paddington.

Hmmmm maybe not. The rest of the look wrong and he seems to possibly have a wife.

Sorry chaps I was doing an online quiz.

To recap: I want to find Zusman Hart (Hart is surname) in 1911 and/or death indexes. He was born 1854 in Whitechapel, though he says Aldgate in 1891 and 1901 censuses.

                            Lipman Hart was his brother.

Just so no-one else tries it, 1911 search for surname Hart born 1854 +/-1 Middlesex ,tried for names beginning every letter of the alphabet (to allow for mistranscribed forename) yields nothing useful.

Can't you leave the first name blank, or is that what you meant?!!

I wonder what years of the GRO index Nell has looked at for a death?

                                  *fetches crystal ball* lol

I can't find that he died before 1911 so he should be on the census.

checked freebmd 1900-1930 for deaths, 5 Lipmans between that time, 1 Herman in 4th Q1926 age 75 (Barnet 3a 385). No other Harts with names ending in *man.

Merry, you can't leave the first name blank, its a required field but on the advanced search you can opt for a "name beginning with" so I trawled thru the alphabet.
