  • Another puzzler...

My family seems to be giving me so many headaches recently......

I havea Reginald William Joseph Gardner, born 14 Jan 1886 in Kincott, Oxon.
To parents William James and Martha.

He moved to Birmingham and married Ada Taylor on 12th Dec 1912.

I ordered what I thought was his death certificate - 12th January 1922.
    I have some confusion
On his marriage certificate 10 years previously he was a locomotive engineer, but on the death certificate the occupation is listed as secretary for a drapery company.
The fathers name matches - William Gardner, but lists his address as Bath. As far as I am aware my William never left Oxford.

My gut is telling me this is wrong and to keep looking for another birth.
    Any opinions would be welcomed.

Did you have reason to think he died young? After WW1 the transcribed death records are not complete, and for the 1930's onwards there is less transcribed than not, so you would need to trawl the GRO indexes quarter by quarter to find him.

I presume this is the birth of your relative below. Might the second entry be the person you have the death cert for?

        Births Jun 1886
        Gardner Reginald William J Witney 3a 891

        Births Sep 1886
Gardner Reginald William Bath 5c 590

That would be it then, thanks.
I have the certificate for the other Reginald born in Bath.
Mine is definetly the first one.
