  • I'm so glad i didn't ask this.....anyone guess why/

Just seen this elsewhere on t'internet, it's a fair enough question, i'm just troubled by the answer

    Q.
if I ordered a death cert how would I know its the right one.. I know it sounds stupid but would it have his wifes name................

    A.
It should say 'Widower' of or 'Husband' of.........

    ---

It's a site i am no longer a member of so i can't add a reply but you really do feel for some folks when they post a question and see some of the replies, if they order a cert and it doesn't say "Widower " or "Husband of" they will probably think they have the wrong one.

Oh dear, generalising from a sample of one (could have been a Scottish or down-under cert.).

It's expanded a bit, chap born late 1860's, son born 1913, now the advice is to get the son's marriage cert and if it says deceased it means then the timeframe has been narrowed down.....mmm, a marriage cert with dad recorded as deceased, a fact gauranteed to be 100% correct on 100% of certs.

The poor lass asking the question is looking for a pretty common surname and it's a rellie in London by birth and marriage.

Being realistic she is looking for a death somewhere in the world (maybe London, maybe UK but could be anywhere) between 1913 and maybe 1975ish.

I blame Heather, she gave me a link a few weeks ago and it's the only way i can get to the boards on the site. I should know better really but sorry though i am for the info this poor soul is being given i won't (can't!!) stump up the sub and suggest something constructive. I burnt my bridges on there a long time ago.

            Just had a look

It seems that a person has added a sensible answer.

Don't know if the poster who started the thread will take any notice.

That's why I'm not a member of that site anymore

Yes there is something resembling a meaningful reply, ie "widower" isn't gauranteed to be on the site and references to the name of informant and addresses are all useful pieces of information that may prove useful.
