  • Can somebody please read this occupation for me?

My (probable) GGG grandmother Margaret Colburn, is shown in the 1871 census as a nurse to an 80 year old lady. Her name is Catherine Paice, or it could be Price and she is shown as a 'Retired ????? Widow'. Can anyone decipher the middle word please. Also the address. I think it says High Street, but what is underneath it? Does it say '1 St John's Hospital, North Hospital'?

This is in St Maurice, Winchester, Hampshire.
    RG10, Piece 1210, Folio 90, page 1

    Thankyou

    Update
Just Googled and it looks as if the address is almshouses run by St Johns Winchester Charity. Still can't decipher the occupation though.

The main location is High Street, and the individual entries are for 1 to ...." St. John's Hospital North". The next page I think says "St. John's Hospital South".

I go with Catherine PAICE, a retired Agriculturalist's widow, born Alton.
Margaret Colburn, 57 married, general nurse, born West Indies.

The place is full of "old buffers" and their companions, so I guess it's a home for retired gentlefolk.

        Thank you Merry and UJ.

I can see what it says now :D
I have been trying to decipher that most of the afternoon. Amazing what another pair of eyes (or two) can see.

        Thank you both again
