  • Where on earth is she? Advice sought..

I am having great trouble with the following person whom I am researching for an inlaw member of the family.

    Mary Percival Kay
born 1876 in Darlington; married 1909 in Darlington (to Thomas Raw)

The thing is I have searched high and low but cannot find any trace of her, or anyone remotely like her in 1881, 1981 or 1901.

I have sent for her birth and marriage certs, and they should be arriving soon and perhaps they will help because then her parents should become obvious, but so far both Ancestry and Family Search have thrown up absolutely nothing except for the above two facts.

Mary's middle name of Percival is wonderfully rare, but that doesn't seem to have helped at all.......now, I do know that there are thoughts that one or more of this person's ancestors may have been oriental in origin, and certainly I have found evidence of "Kay" in the far east, but Mary was born in Darlington and her name is very European! Where else can I look please

Well if the one Merry found is right, and the image does look like Kay, at least her mother was called Georgiana, so she should be easier to find.

                          Sally

Merry and I are used to finding people who are mistranscribed. But you'll be glad to know I have some elusive folk who I can't find on various censuses and indeed some people who don't appear to have died!

Thank you all so very much - I really am grateful, but cannot understand why three nights of searching Ancestry didn't reveal these seemingly obvious entries?! Just out of interest, I will go and do it again - I am using the new search method

If you use the old search and just put Mary Kay 1877 and Darlington in the keywords for 1881 there's only one match!
