Might be easier if you post up their places of birth, Jeanette, and where they were living on those censuses.

Is there something strange about Hull in 1891- I can't bring up ANYONE! Even with no specific name/date....

There must be - I looked at the selection of towns in Yorkshire for the 1891 census and Hull isn't listed. I also looked at Lincolnshire in case it had 'moved' but not there either!!

I wonder if they've listed them by registration district then. Even so, some of the Bakers where born in the Sculcoates reg dist but most were born in the Hull reg dist

There's a Mary Baker, born 'Hull', listed as living 'Holy Trinity and St Mary, Yorkshire' and when you look at the image it is 'Kingston upon Hull' with 'Holy Trinity' as the parish....

As you suspect, you might have to look by different districts...how annoying!!

I looked under Hull to start with and then saw the Sculcoates listings. I wonder if David died and Mary remarried and the children wrongly listed under new husband? By 1891 the children would all be of working age so maybe not altogether as a family too.
Have you been able to find the ones who married?

Checked and nothing for Kingston upon Hull so I think it's looking like the various parishes within Hull were listed separately.

Margaret...the couple that I looked at that were there were listed as being born in Hull but their places of residence were given as parishes within Hull....ie Sutton and Stoneferry

The thing is I can't find marriages for the last 3 children so I'm wondering if they moved abroad but those that had already left home either stayed or went with them. Also I can't find deaths or re-marriages for David or Mary in the East Riding

I just had a quick look at FMP passenger lists and didn't find David or Mary but they only start in 1890 and they could have gone before that. I guess you might have to try for some of the marriage certs for the children to see if they are yours and if they say whether father deceased or not.
There should be something for daughter Mary though in 1881, unless she went abroad first before the census and then everyone else followed before 1891.
Maybe someone with a worldwide sub to ancestry could see if they pop up in censuses elsewhere.
