  • Tribal Pages Help Please

I have several Tribal Pages trees and several Hotmail accounts.

I wanted to upload an updated gedcom to one of my trees but, although the visitor password still gives me access, putting in the editing password brings up the message that I don't have administrator rights for that tree.

I need the right e-mail address to request the password, but none of my Hotmail addresses seem to be valid for this particular tree.

Does anyone know if there is any way of finding out what e-mail address was used when the tree was first created?

Do you have the option to email the tree owner? It's a while since I used TP, but I seem to remember I had that option set for visitors.
If you have, try it. It should go to whatever address you used. Hopefully it's one you still have access to!
I think mine are on accounts that I don't :o

Thanks Tracy - I tried that already but the message isn't turning up in any of my e-mail accounts.

I last changed that tree in October and definitely haven't closed any e-mail accounts since then.

It's rubbish since they changed how you log in. Don't think I've been able to since.

I'd try emailing them (is that even possible?) and asking how you can get access without knowing the address. They probably won't help, but you never know.

Thanks Tracy. I can use the "contact us" button to e-mail them, but have no idea how I/they can prove I am the creator of the tree without my e-mail address. Oh well, I'll give it a go lol

I too think it was better before they changed the log-in system.

I sometimes have problems logging into my TP trees since they changed the access rules, but this is how I get round it:

When you get to the access bit, change whatever email address is showing in the box, to the email address for which you can remember the password!

Remember the password is linked to the email address and may not necessarily be the password you USED to use to edit. I hope that makes sense. It's very annoying and I can't imagine why they changed the access rules - it was simplicity itself before this.

              Thanks OC.

I think I have now tried every permutation of e-mail addresses, visitor passwords and editor passwords. Using the "search by site name/e-mail address" etc, the e-mail address I think should be attached to the tree isn't, and only seems to be linked in some way to a viewing permission for another of my trees.

Since the access rule changes, regardless of which e-mail address I have last used on the site, whenever I click "edit" on a tree, it always defaults to one particular e-mail address (presumably the first tree I ever created there).

I will clear all cookies, have one final attempt and then e-mail them.

                Success!

I cleared all the cookies and went back to the access page of the tree in question and the correct e-mail address and password were already in place!

The fault was mine - I had used one of my "spare" Yahoo addresses, not Hotmail:o

Hotmail do if you haven't used them for a while, but you can reinstate them.

I had a problem with my log-ins on tribal pages and requested my password and they sent me details of all the tribal pages I had and their respective passwords etc.

Mary - I try to log in to all my spare Hotmail ones periodically because I had a notion they deleted them after a certain time.

JBee - do you have all your Tribal Pages trees linked to the same e-mail address?

My TP ones. I had usernames StarryEyed50 and StarryEyed500. When I searched, it said they didn't exist.

Tracy - did you check if your tree names had gone from search results?

Yes, they have. I think I must've deleted the tree and because I haven't accessed it in so long, they've gone.

I can log in with 2 of my email addresses, though one is no longer a working email address lol
One has a tree attached, the other doesn't. I think the one that doesn't was one that was linked to one of those usernames.

Doesn't matter really. It was just very odd lol

Oh, as an aside - they have the facility to tell you what your email address is, as long as you know your username and password. Just click on the 'Forot Password' link.

                                        Thanks Tracy.

Although my trees on there are all private, apart from being in the directory for searching, I didn't want to leave one marooned without being able to delete it if I wanted to.

:o I couldn't work out from the scribbles in my notebook what my user name had been for the tree I first posted about.

I'll be interested to see if JBee uses the same e-mail address for all trees because it would certainly simplify life!
