Adobe Reader and Firefox

I cannot open any PDF files on my computer it says:

The adobe acrobat reader cannot be used to view PDF files in a web browser

I am using Firefox I have read where it says you have to allow it but I do not know how to do this.

Can anyone help please.

Hi Jill,

I use firefox. No idea if this will help as I don't remember specifically having to allow adobe reader but - if I go to Tools/Options/Applications I can see "Adobe Acrobat Document". Clicking on that brings up a dropdown list of options for how to handle such documents including "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)"

Thank you for your help I did try that but nothing appears to happen.

I still can't open a pdf file it is so frustrating as I have just downloaded something from the National Archives.

As far as I can remember when you download a PDF document from The National Archives, you don't need to use a web browser to open it anyway? Just double-click on the saved file and it should open.

Thank you Queen bee it works I have had this laptop for 9 months and it has been like this all of the time our other computer runs firefox too and can download PDF's no problem. I was beginning to think there was a problem with the laptop.

Kiterunner it says I needed one to download the Seamans Register from National Archives and it has downloaded with the add on Queen Bee recommended.
