  • Silly me!

I printed a will entry out some time ago for Joseph Newton.

    It is
    Newton Joseph
    Executors: Betty Bardsley Southwark
    Court:
    Cy Chester
    Register 3
    Folio 771

I forgot to note the year, because the page doesn't tell you. :o

Does anyone know if any of the above would give a clue as to the year?

Not really, sorry. I wonder if it is listed online in Cheshire wills?

If it's a pre-1858 one, then the only one I can see on the Cheshire wills database is 1856 - a yeoman of Ashton upon Mersey. Does that sound like him?

I looked at that one Cheshire wills data base, Kate, but I wasn't sure.

I dont even know if this Joseph is one of ours, but because of the Southwark and Cheshire connection I thought I'd better check it out.

I wondered if the regsiter and folio numbers might help, but how is another matter!

If you want to check whether the year is 1856 then you could look that year up on the Index to Death Duty Registers (on findmypast) and see if there is a matching entry.
