  • Afghan War death help

    Hello all

I was just wondering if anybody knows of somewhere I can look to locate the death of a Henry Webb who served in the 67th Foot Regiment during the Afghan war (Almost 100% he died 1880)

    Many thanks

    Danny

(a side-shoot) - this shows that "The Afghan question" is nothing new, but has been running continuously for well over 150 years. As a youngster I "inherited" bound volumes of "Boys Own Paper" and "Chums" of about 1930, which featured tales of derring-do from the era which Danny mentions.

        Thankyou Jackie

The closest I have come to finding him is this gentleman -

1123 Private Webb Harry 66th Foot Killed in Action Maiwand 27 July 1880

Not sure if its him but my guy was definately in the 67th regiment of foot on the 1871 census and he had a child in India in 1879 and on the 1881 census his wife was down as widow.
I know the 67th did serve in Afghan in 1880 as they got 3 battle honours.

There is this forum that has a section about the first and second Afghan Wars. I've never used it but it may be worth a look
