  • Some more deciphering please?

On the 1901 census ref RG13/52 I am looking at Mr Cross and his family. According to his son's birth certificate (Alfred b 1893) the name is Henry but on this census it shows as Harry. Do you think Henry and Harry are interchangeable Names?

Secondly, can you deciper his occupation please?

    Thank youx

The census ref would be RG13 Piece ___ Folio ____ Page ____

or can we have the year and place of birth for Harry Cross - we should be able to find him that way.

Sorry Gill - still struggling to find him.

On Ancestry transcription is he Henry or Harry
              Where was he born?

There should be four parts to the census ref

If you have the birth cert for Alfred, does the mum's first name match? I would definitely say Henry and Hary are interchangable.

                (I can't find them!)

Yes its Poplar and I think that it must be the reference Merry mentions, however, I have the 1901 census in front of me and no where can I see all of the references you suggest. The page number is in the top right hand corner and the bottom left hand corner gives only RG13/352. I think I must be blind because the info should be there I assume! On the birth cert the mum's name does match and she was Kate (nee Hammond) from Tunbridge Wells.

You'll get the full census ref. at the bottom of the Ancestry transcription page, under the list of names.
