  • Computer URGENT help Norton etc

    Can anyone help , came to start my comp this morning after trouble with ancestry yesterday the page wouldnt close for me so left it till shutting down last night then this morning Windows Vista had to do repair work and systen restore before it would start up ;;
    Then noticed there was no Norton shortcut in my bar at bottom so opened it by programs ,,my antiviris had been turned of and also my life updates ;;
    Got both turned back on and then started a full system scan but why waiting checked my Log Viewer and they are saying the problem I had this morning was caused by 30350006and to download Symantec UAC Tool and do the following ;;;

    We suggest that you print this page before you start. PRINT
    STEP 2
    Temporarily disable User Account Control
    Note If you have Windows XP, go to Step 3.
    1 Download the Symantec UAC Tool. DOWNLOAD

    Save the file onto your desktop.
    2 On the desktop, right click the UAC_Tool.exe file, and then click Run as administrator.
    3 In the User Account Control window, click Allow.
    4 In the Symantec UAC Tool window, click Disable.

    Note Do not close the Symantec UAC Tool window.
    STEP 3
    Run the fix tool
    1 Run a tool to fix the problem. RUN IT NOW

    2 Restart the computer.

    Now do I stop the scan Im doing and do this 1st or wait ,,,,help never had no problems like this before ;;;

    If the scan does not find anything, and everythings seems to be working ok, I would suggest not installed the Symantec UAC Tool.

    As they say, don't try to fix what isn't broken.

      Morning Dave and thanks for answering , so the problems I had starting computer this morning should all be fixed by what Windows did and just checking with this scan ,,,,?
      I was so shocked by seeing my anti virus had been turned off and live updates ;;;
      so far scan just showing the 1 tracking cooking that I have every time I have done a scan ;;

        The UAC tool is a User Account Control tool.

        It's designed to stop the Vista prompts that appear asking about administrative rights for routine tasks like installing/updating programmes etc.

        I can see the argument for it to an extent for lazy users but downloading the tool and letting it decide whether to grant permission for you isn't a replacement for physically checking the prompts and deciding for yourself.

            The full explanation (via Norton labs) explains the pros but probably not the cons of the tool.

                I know this dont help you right now...but if I was you I would not use Norton or Mcafee.

                Best Paid virus scanners on market are:

                1) Bitdefender thats what I have been using for long time.

                2) Kaspersky

                3) Nod32

                These 3 are way ahead of Norton and McaFee and have been for some time.

                My 2 cents worth
