  • I can't find these childrens births

    Hi

I have my g-grans sister and family in the 1911 census. They were romany gypsys, so the spelling could be a bit strange.
I was wondering if anyone can help me find the births of the last 3 children children. According to the census, they were all born in Canning Town. I've scoured the index's, but can't see them.

The family are Belchar Street b1880 in Epping (Loughton Reg district) & Betsy Lee b1879 in Canning Town (West Ham reg dis) they married 24/06/1898 in Canning Town.

    the children are -

    Lydia Street 1900 (West Ham 4a 140)
    Mansie Street 1903
    Rebecca Street 1907
    Martha Street 1909

I'm at a loss, I can't find births or deaths. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

I can't see births for those particular names, but the trouble is if they were nicknames then there are so many Street births in West Ham that it's impossible to know which are their births without knowing their "official" names.

        Hi Kiterunner

The trouble is with these gypsies every name is a nickname!!

Nan was always called Bird - real name Louisa,
her sister was Rabbitts - real name Maria, pronounced Meriah
Mum's cousin was called Ginny - real name Mary Ann
another cousin Bono - real name John
another cousin Chocco - real name Alfred
another cousin Tichy - real name Rose

And so many children! Mum was one of 11, Nan was one of 18, Nan's sister had 15 children, and so it goes on!

I've been doing my tree for 7 years now, and still finding 1st & 2nd cousins for Mum!

Wendy - I saw them too, but every birth would have been definitly in Canning Town. The only time they went 'over the water' - south of the Thames and into Kent, would be for fruit or hop picking.

Thanks for looking anyway, I was beginning to think I was missing something.

        Sandra

edit - yes there are a lot of 'Streets' in West Ham.... an awful lot belong to me
