  • Tribal Pages v ?

I help my cousin with her research and a year ago I set up a Tribal Pages site so that we could share our discoveries with the rest of the family.

It's now time to renew and the price has shot up due to the weak pound. She says that the site isn't as user friendly as she had hoped and asked if I knew of an alternative, where we can display the tree, info and photos.

I welcome your suggestions, either on free or chargable sites...

    Have you tried Ancestry?
There is also a tree building facility on FMP but not sure what it´s like or how it works.

i have Legacy 7 for my personal use. I also use Tribal Pages for online.
My Heritage costs a bit after so many names in your tree online.

Most ISPs provide webspace for their customers websites free of charge.
Why not upload your data to your own website?
That way you are in complete control.
          Cheers

How would you display the data in tree form, though?

My ISP is AOL, who have recently removed this facility!

I have Family Historian software, but was left unimpressed by their tree building programme, but then I have to find somewhere to host it.

I think what my cousin wants is the ability to see her whole tree, with head and shoulder shots and a drop down information box for each ancestor on it...

              Now does this exist??...

My Tree is on Dave's website, and he used the software from the following site. I think Grimsqueaker used it too for Julie's. Think we paid about £12 for it.

Why not have a free TP site?!

Thanks Wendy , I'm just off to look at that now.

That's a good point OC! :D Although we're over our free quota of 50 images, which I guess we could reduce if need be. Free or not, the problem with TP is that apart from customising it cosmetically, you can't actually change the way in which the tree is presented.

Is what I would have said.

TNG is the one I use (same as Julie) - it is 29 dollars for the software so exchange rate will pay a part there as well. You also need to be able to have SQL database capability on your site which not all hosting sites are capable of, so by the time you pay for hosting unless you can find a free one, you might as well stick with TP I reckon. On the other hand you have more scope with TNG if you want it.

Thank Caroline, I've just been looking at it.

It certainly looks good and just what my cousin was after, however at $29.99 that's working out around £21 at an ex rate of 1.37495 (from AOL money)...

I'll send the link to my cousin to see what she thinks
