  • Wise family all born Fawley Berks disappeared!

    Hello,
This is especially difficult as all the children were born between 1770 and 1784 in Fawley Berkshire making them a little on the elderly side for the first census. Their parents are William Wise and Ann Wernem born 1746 and 1743 in Fawley and married in Pakenham Suffolk in 1768. They returned from Suffolk to have their family.

    The children are:
    Elizabeth Born 1770
    William Born 1771
    James 1776
    George 1778
    John 1781
    Lucy 1784
    All born in Fawley

One I can find is George Wise who moved to the White Waltham, Bray area married and settled there. Another is Lucy(1784) who married James Carey in October 1815 in Fawley. James Carey died in November 1815. Married one month!

Everything comes from the Parish Registers except William Wise senior's birth which is calculated from his burial.

And that is it! I can find nothing about Elizabeth, William, James and John or anything on widow Lucy. I am not really expecting anyone to find them but would appreciate any ideas.

    Thank you

The only Wise buried in Fawley is a George Wise buried 23 Sep 1813 aged 73 from South Fawley.

If you locate the possibles in my previous post on the census previous to their death, you will be able to confirm or eliminate them

OK, 1851 census, George Wise of East Garston...

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 1686; Folio: 693; Page: 17; GSU roll: 193594.

Age a bit out, but seems most likely one to correspond with burial of 1858. Says he was born in East Garston... :(

          James Wise on the 1861...

Source Citation: Class: RG9; Piece: 759; Folio: 37; Page: 12; GSU roll: 542696.
Age was quite a bit out with that one, but worth a look.. he says he was born in Arborfield.

1841 William Wise.. Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 31; Book: 5; Civil Parish: Warfield; County: Berkshire; Enumeration District: 7; Folio: 8; Page: 11; Line: 16; GSU roll: 241208.

He says he was born in county.

I'm not a lot of help I'm afraid, but least you can eliminate some possibles in Berkshire...

Wow! You have been busy! Thank you.

George is the only one I can follow all the way through. I should have added his death which is 23 Sep 1818 (not 13) in Fawley.

It doesn't look very hopeful as they were all born Fawley. I have named the father as William and it should be George. Apologies! But that doesn't make a lot of difference as the children are quite correct.

I have tried to look at the census references but FMP say NO to them all!

I appreciate your help but I don't think it gets us any further because of their birthplace.

An aside did I see that you are from Maidenhead or lived there? I was born and brought up there.

                  Glad to be of service

Yes, I do live in Maidenhead, I moved here from Sussex 20 years ago, although my husband is from the area. If you would like anything looked up locally then please let me know
