  • Hi, can someone please help?

    ;)

Hi, I'm trying to research my Grandmothers branch of the family tree and have gone back to her Great Grandfather Michael Doyle who was born in about 1822 and her Grandmother Mary Burney who was born in about 1826 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

They had three children Margeret born in 1848

    James born in 1849

    And Michael born in 1850

I can't find any infomation at all on Michael and Marys parents, can someone please help?

    I found this:

    BURNEY, MARY
    Gender: Female
    Birth
    Marriage/Relationship: 1848 - HOBART, Tasmania ( DOYLE, MICHAEL )
    Death:

    FAMILY INFORMATION
    Children:
    97398 DOYLE MARGARETT 1847
    97397 DOYLE MICHAEL 1850

    Is this the right family?

Can see any births for either of them in Tasmania.

Michael may be a convict but could not swear to it. But this record fits:

      Name: Michael Doyle
      Vessel: Marion
      Convicted Date: 18 Sep 1843
      Voyage Date: 22 Nov 1843
      Colony: Van Dieman's Land
      Piece: HO 11/13
Place of Conviction: Central Criminal Court

The convict Michael was pardoned in 1847-48 which would tie in with the marriage but I can't see the image to see if there is a DOB or age.

That's really intresting, according to family legend he came from Ireland but I couldn't find any record of him there and also according to family legand Mary and her children were dark skinned, sadly my Granmother wouldn't talk about her mother because she was ashamed of it. (I don't know how that ties in)

Forget the Egyptian one, he had a family.

The Marion Michael is 36 on the attached link. Just not sure when it was written. (pg 82)

There is a heap of things on this Michael at the Archives of Tasmania website:

Sorry I meant I couldnt swear to him 'being a convict above.

I can't find a link between your Michael and the convict Michael. Have you got the marriage cert?

                    Hi Kris......welcome to FTF.

Have you got Michael's death cert? That SHOULD have how long he'd been in Australia.

With a name like Michael Doyle, I'd say he's Irish, and Mary Burney sounds Irish.

What certs do you have??? Sometimes we get certs, have a read, then put them away, not realising there are family names used or witnesses that can help.

Both Mary and Michael's death certs should have their parents names, but of course that depends on the informant knowing the names.

If you can find a marriage it should also have parents names.

This link shows his age at 40, I think. Posted in case he is yours.

This is a link to get the certs if you don't have them. There is no online index though.

Hi Harrys Mum, thanks for the welcome, no I haven't got their certificates yet.
I guess it would be a good idea to get a copy of their marraige certificate?

Kris....you really can't get anywheer without certs. Even the names and dates you have will need certs to double check unless you knew the people personally.

I remember finding the man I thought was my great grandfather died before his first birthday. Same name, age, place of birth and even parents' names. Wasn't until others researching that family told me he'd died as a baby, I realised. I hadn't bought certs and assumed there would only be the one fellow.

Their mothers did have different maiden names.....
