  • Great Grandfathers marked as dead on 1911 cenus but children untill 1915?

The entry for my Great Grandfather on the 1911 census has been crossed through in red pen and dead written on it. I know of at least 3 other children where he is showing as father and mothers status married rather then widow. He was from Italy and I can find no records of him ie death, marriage etc does anyone know what the immagration laws were?

    Hmmmm.........

It has been known for women to have a child that isn't their husband's, but register it exactly as if it is. A friend of mine put together a large tree, not realising her "g-grandfather" had been dead for 17 years by the time his name was recorded on her grandmother's birth cert.

Perhaps he wasn't dead, but had left the country. He might or might not have come back to father more children of course..........

      Hi
If you give us some details perhaps we can help solve this mystery.
Even though his entry is crossed through is there anything written in the column under the heading Nationality of every person born in a foreign country?

What was his name? Have you looked in the death indexes?
