  • Free Virus protection please?

I'm sure that I have seen people talk about being able to download free virus protection for their computer many times. Unfortunately I can't remember what any of them were called.

    Any suggestions/advice please?

A.V.G. and Avast are both free thou AVG takes a lot of space.

I use this one and it works well.

                  Hiya
                  I use this one
                  Anti Malware.
Found it far better than adware or AG.
                  All the best

Tugman....Antimalware is not an antivirus program...it onl handles spyware, adware and such.

Cowgirl, you need one that runs all the time....and with an email scanner.......lots od damage can be done in a few minutes...sometimes it cannot be undone. As well as antivirus you need a good firewall.....this way you should be warned when any viral ware tries to access your computer.

run in the back ground & updates also.
But also all depends on how much you look on the net & what you download.
Give your computer a quick scan every week & every 2/3 wks do a full scan.

                            Hello Lyn A
                            Silly tugman i am.
                            Very sorry to confuse cowgirl.
                            From my son
                            Use avg or avast anti-virus
plus could use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware but need to check for updates every couple of weeks.
Plus as you say a good firewall.

Not with any freebies. I use AVG. I found Avast a real pain...too many false positives. It drove me crazy. I quickly went back to AVG, which I have used it since I bought my first computer in 1995 and have never had a virus.

I use ZoneAlarm for a firewall and Spybot S&D, Adaware and Malware bytes for malware. I alternate my scans for malware as I find that each different one searches for slightly different things. That way, what one misses, is usually picked up by the next one. One malware programme alone is not enough.

ZoneAlarm is, and so are some others.
