  • Margaret Dickenson

I have the marriage certificate of Margaret Frances Dickenson. Married George Robert Ellis. Dec quarter 1920 in Lambeth, Surrey. Father Andrew Dickenson (deceased). She was aged 21

I could never find her birth and could never find her on 1891 ot 1901 census.

I have found her on 1911 census living at the same address as given on her marriage certificate which is in Lambeth.

It gives her place of birth as Holloway, London.

Have looked page by page from 1889 to 1891 and still can't find her birth. Have tried Dickinson as well.

Anyone fancy having a look for her?

If she was married in 1920 and was aged 21 then she would have been born c 1899/1900 - not 1889/1891.

        Sorry of course.

I should have siad I could never find an Andrew Dickenson on 1891.

On 1911 she is living with her husband of under one year George Ellis.

Address 48 Bellefields Road. Brixton London, which is the address she is at on her marriage certificate.

....and meant I searched for her birth 1899/1901

I'm getting confused with dates here.

If she was married in 1920, aged 21, then she was born c 1899/1901
If she was born 1899/1901 then she wouldn't have been married by 1911.

Just checked - you have the marriage date wrong in your first post!

She married in 1910 - therefore born 1889/1891

There are several Margaret Frances born 1888 - 1891 in London!!! I think she was illegitimate that's why you can't find a birth.

What district would Holloway come under?

                  I think it is Islington.

I was beginning to think that as I have never found Andrew (her supposed father) on any census...have even search in Scotland

If the only mention you have of her father is her marriage cert then its possible that she was illegitimate and possibly her birth registered under her mother's maiden name. What occupation does it give for Andrew?

Or this could be a possiblilty:

                            Margaret Dickson
                            1890 Apr-May-Jun Islington 1b Page:198

Maybe Frances was added later? I do have a few instances of brides sexing up their names a bit when they married, ie Rose became Rosella, Annie became Elizabeth Anne. I also have brides who miss out their middle names too.

Can't see likely candidate on 1891 census though.

Her father was a bricklayer. (If he was her father)
