  • Isaac Pye VOWLES, 1841 census look please

Could someone kindly check to see if Isaac Pye Vowles c1812 and his wife Jane are in the 1941 census please?

They married in Bath in 1937 I believe, and had a child in Australia in 1842 but I don't know when they came to Australia and am trying to narrow the time down.
It is possible that they might have already had two or three children by the time they came out here.

    Thank you very much.

Jess, that is him exactly - and yes his wife was jane Banks.

Rumour has it he was the Gardner and eloped with the daughter of the house!!
His mum's name was Mary Pye.

i did not have his christening date - but i did have him born in Walcott, Somerset.

This isn't what you asked for either (I can't see him in 1841) but there is an Isaac Pye in Pigots 1930 Directory of Somerset - also various Vowels

            Index for 1830 Somerset Pigot's Directory H to Z

Vonny - there was also a private member tree with him on it. Might be worth contacting the submitter - although it might be the same as the Ancestry World Tree.

                  Thanks Joan and Elaine,

I'll be back - that Tucker-White family tree actually traces my line down to my Dad!
And i have no idea who they are. AND i know all my immediate cousins (there are only 3!)
I'm just going to go and double- check correspondence and trees on GR as i haven't really been there for yonks!

I'll be back - I really want to find the ship they came out on.

Thank you Merry - I am so slow typing!!. That narrows down the time they got on the ship to between 1840 - and 1842

I think the 1840 birth was registered in Q2. Can't clearly see the other birth on the GRO index.

                        back from the dark side

I had contacted the owner of the Tucker - White tree (GR) ages ago but didn't remember her name. My line is apparently a very obscure link by marriage to her Tuckers through the Vowles Line. That explains why she has some incorrect data that could be easily checked if she wanted to. However - she did have some interesting bits that confirmed some research I did today.

off to search ship lists. fingers crossed.

Just had a thought - if they are not on the 1941 they must have boarded ship before it. When was it taken???

I think you need lists for 1840s, not 1940s!

TNA only has outward bound passenger lists from 1890-1960. I don't know if there are any Aussie-based records on incoming passengers?

On Ancestry do a search on New South Wales, Australia, Assisted Immigrant Passenger Lists, 1828-1896
There is a Jane Vawlis born c 1813, arrival date 13 Oct 1841 on the Lady Kennaway - with two children Mary Ann and Eliza Jane.
It looks as if her name has also been transcribed as Jane Vowels, but when you click on that one the children's names are not shown.

They all seem to be there:

                                        Ann Vowels c1840
                                        Eliza Vowels c 1838
                                        Isaac Vowels c 1812
                                        Jane Vowels c1813

date of arrival 13 Oct 1841 Lady Kennaway

You can go to bed now!
