Trying to find a relly who was in the workhouse in the 81 census and wondered if there was a specific site I could look on for their records. Trying to find him in 91 census but not getting any hits! I will try to see if there is a death for him, just in case.
    Thanks

    Records

    • Sheffield Archives, 52 Shoreham Street, Sheffield S1 4SP. Holdings comprise: Guardians' minute books (1890-1930 with gaps), Punishments register. The majority of the Sheffield Union records are said to have been destroyed when the former Union offices were bombed during World Ward 2.

    Quoted from:

    The Workhouse -Sheffield -West Riding

If you can publish his details we can try to find him on the 1891 census

What are his details for 1881 census? there appears to be several workhouses in the area.

What was his name, age and date of birth? Sometimes, because institiutional records were filled in by the head of the institution, they got these details wrong or were a bit less specific, just giving a county for example.

Similarly, if he died before 1891 but in the workhouse, then the person registering the death may have got his name or age at death slightly wrong too.

          Edit
Just gone through enumeration districts for Sheffield 1891 and the only institutions listed are the Infirmary and the Blue Coat Charity School for Boys.

Those sheffield records look good as most of rellies I am trying to find out about are from sheffield in the 1800's. I can't access them as when I click nothing happens! Maybe the site is down, I will try again later! Thanks Kat
