  • evaccuation address

My husband and his brother were evaccuated from London with their mother to MELROSE POULTRY FARM,HOOKWOOD,HORLEY. They were there from JUNE 1943-Oct. 1944.Does anyone one know if this farm still exists or how I can discover more about it during the above years. All my husband can remember is playing in the barn aged 3-4years.

    Cheers, Cyndy

    Hi Cyndy

I had a google and it doesn't seem to exist under the same name, Hookwood lies very close to Gatwick so i wonder if that may have a bearing on things. Looking at a street map hasn't helped much either, there doesn't appear to be a reference to the Melrose name in the area either though that may refer to the owners rather than the locality.

This seems to be the website of the business that Pippa has found -

Building design & Surveying Consultancy , now based at Melrose Farm
        Joan died in July 2020.
