  • Suggestions for alternative name search please

I am looking for a family in 1911 and nothing very concrete is coming up in the searches. Well, nothing sure enough to spend 30 credits on

    William Foster c1868
    Clementina c 1876
    Mabel 1897
    Winifred c 1899
    Violet c 1901

In 1901 showing all born Bleasby Notts and living there too.

I have tried omitting first names with other in house as William etc.
I have tried Forster and Fo*
    Any suggestions please?

Oh, and they are probably living in East Retford Notts (Comes under Southwell).

Could William have died? Could Clementina have remarried?

I've got Fosters too Chrissie and it's a pig of a name! LOL

      Thanks Jeanette - I think :D

I can find a Violet with William in East Retford but non of the others. Maybe I should look at that. It's the 30 credits that frightens me
I can't find deaths for the others either

Could the others be going by middle names? Have you tried putting in just the first names with East Retford?

I'm trying desperately to save you 30 credits here :D

          Ahhhhh this happened to me!!!

I couldn't find granddad William with his parents William & Christiana. I then tried tracing his brothers, Edward & John & found two that matched, right age, etc. So I risked a transcription first, low & behold, there were the brothers with the correct surname, & granddad & great grandparents had the same surname except starting with a "B" instead of "D" & great grandma had turned into Richard! :(

To be fair though, my great grandad's writing was very curly & they were living in Hammersmith instead of Surrey, I've no idea why but it is the right family despite the different surname spellings!

Have you tried FASTER & FORSTER at all?

Another idea! :D What if Mum and 2 oldest daughters are away visiting in a county that hasn't been transcribed yet ;) :D

Thanks Joanie I've tried Forster but not Faster. Will have to come back later to give it a go.

                    Don't forget that a fancy F can look like a T or a J.

By the way, the wildcard search isn't operational yet.

There is also the possibility of a typo rather than a mistranscription - found my GGgrandmother's name starting with a C rather than a D, even though her writing was very clear. Especially since there was another person in the household with a different D name and the word 'daughter' twice in the relation column - and they were both transcribed right.

                        Yes Joanie, that's them

Thanks everyone, I will have another go with T and J etc.

I knew the wildcard wasn't working at the front yet but I didn't know that it wasn't working at all - thanks for that Mary.
