Hiya Mary...thats the problem...there was a lot of info so I videoed it on my phone...and the video hasn`t worked...I think it was either 1868 or 1886 but I`ve just checked on freebmd and lancashire bmd from 1860 up to 1890 and the only death of a henry oakes is in Bolton in 1879...allan

Trouble is, he might have died elsewhere and just had a headstone at that church. Some of my family have memorial stones in the UK but died in Australia! (not that you are told that on the stone lol)

Time to go back and have another go at taking a photo!

Oops, sorry, here it is again:

                Deaths Mar 1886
                Oakes Henry 63 W. Derby 8b 495

I cut and pasted it from FreeBMD the first time, accidentally missed off the first few letters, and messed up when I typed them in by hand :o

                  Hi again
I think this is him in 1881 census aged 59 yrs.Gen Lab born Oxon Cheshire
                  residing at son-in-laws house.
                  Gerrads Cottages, Garston
son -in-law Joseph Appleton aged 37 yrs blacksmith
wife Margaret Appleton age 30 yrs born Toxteth
                  plus children.
Now son-in-law a blacksmith also Daniel Oakes a blacksmith.
Can you get old map & see how far apart these both are.
In Banks Rd was the Banks Rd, Wesleyan Methodist. tugman

Yes Tugman...my dads uncle went to that church...if you google Daniel Oakes you will find a sad story about him being a minister on an Island in the Pacific (think it was Uluru)..he was captured by the Japanese and his ship full of Japanese war prisoners was sunk by the Americans.....Henry was obviously related to Daniel born 1849 from Neston....allan;)
