After last weekends findings of the new Speck children, I sent for one of the Birth Certs, Jacobs, and yes he was born in the Barracks,so I will send for some of the others too, will I get them if they were born in India ? Also I came across a death date for the Head of the Clan James Speck that I had not seen before, so I sent for that and its come, very quick at the moment, and a lovely surprise, first it WAS him and second he had lived two doors away from where I grew up in MY road ! I cant believe it, at a earlier date of course, but such a surprise, I seem be be finding that quite a few of my relatives had lived in my Road and I never knew, due to my Family never wanting to talk about old stuff. So will keep you informed if you are interested.

Great news. If you are finding these births on the Findmypast overseas section of military births, then yes you will get them in the ordinary way from GRO, even the India births, but if you are finding them on the IGI in India then I am not sure how you will get those. Perhaps you can elaborate on how/where you are finding these births?

Find mypast has the following Speck in India:
Anne Speck Madras 1883 44th Regt Vol 1199 Page 63
Elizabeth Speck Kamptee 1874 44th Regt Vol 1199 Page 19
Henry Speck Kamptee 1872 44th Regt Vol 1199 Page 54
You obtain these birth certs by applying for them in the usual way quoting the volume and page nos. Cost £7 each cert. You can order them up online through findmypast:
Family Tree, Family History, Find Your Past, UK | Findmypast.com
Remember they may or may NOT be your Speck.

Hi Patti
The info that Janet has found on the overseas birth index looks very promising. Elizabeth's who's baptism in 1874 was found in the IGI & possibly the Henry born c1870 living in Hackney in 1901, but If Anne born 1883 was one of James and Eliza's children then she should have been living with them at Purfleet in 1891. Perhaps Janet could look in the index to see if she died as an infant.

The other Speck baps are as follows and remember these army ones are baptisms NOT births so may or may not be the same place that they were born: I made that mistake with my grandmother bap through army registers at Portsea but actually born Sheffield.
Doris G York 1886 26 regt Vol 1030 page 63
James P Brentwood 1880 44 regt 1199 54
Jane Colchester 1886 44 Regt 1199 69
Mary St Canicus 1867 44 regt 1199 9
Mary no place given 1869 44 regt 1199 54
Mary J no place given 1863 A H Ops Regt 606 38
Ruth Otahuhu 1863 Ah Ops Regt 606 38?
(Are Mary J and Ruth twins?) different Regt?
Sarah Warley 1877 44 1199 54
Wiliam J Brentwood 1878 44 1199 54
I could not find any deaths.

The first one I gave you was for:
Anne Speck Madras 1883 44 Regt Vol 1199 Page 63.
Is this the wrong time frame for your Anne? Remember this is a baptismal date and the birth may have taken place at another place and a few years earlier? Have you checked Free BMD for a possible death of Anne?
