  • Does Jane have a pob in 1861 please?

Sorry folks, now i'm back to reseaching again i'm looking at another census query.

From the 1851 Berwick on Tweed census, (indexed on Ancestry as Winn!!)

    Address; Ravensdowne
***Jane Muir, Head, Widow, aged 63, Annuitant. Born Scotland
    Andrew, Son, unm, Berwick
    Jane, daur, unm, 27 Berwick
Elizabeth (illegible), daur, married, 24 Berwick
    Andrew grandson, 9, Ireland
    Thomas, grandson 6, Ireland

I'm really just interested in the two Jane entries really in the 1861 return.

Does Jane senior have anything other than Scotland recorded as pob and is there any sign of Jane jnr anywhere?

There may be another Jane knocking around in the '61, possibly a furniture dealer or similiar and she isn't connected.

I have to nip out for 10 minutes or so (cheers Mrs G!!!).

    Back soon.

That's the one Elaine. George being my 2xgrt grandfather. Silly me, i know where Jane jnr is for 1861 already:o Way down in Norfolk.

There are two death entries in the 1860's under the name of Jane Muir, most likely they match Jane snr and the furniture broker.

A trip to the archives for burial records will probably reveal a bit more and tie the loose ends together quite nicely.

        Thanks for looking.

I thought Hay was one of your names so was a bit confused!

The marriage you quote was the second one for George (my coastguard).

Although i'm not a descendant of Jane jnr (i descend from Georges' first marriage) her place in the family had a major influence on the following generations and in particular my grandfather. Things would probably be very different if Jane hadn't appeared.

Jane may have been a house servant for a clergyman in the 1841, i wonder if i have photographed a pow in Berwick she was indirectly connected to?
