  • Joseph Henry White - committed suicide

Joseph Henry White died 9th July 1887 aged 62.

    He was a joiner.

Cause of death given as: Found dead committed suiced whilst insane.

Joseph was married to Ann Daniels and they had 4 children.

2 of the children's birth certificates give Daniels as the mothers maiden name.

However, I cannot find anything else about Joseph and Ann.

I cannot find a marriage or any census for either of them before 1861.

Anybody able to help at all?

    Thanks,

    Tom

Yes found that one Mary but cannot see an obvious 1881census entry ... perhaps we should get the crystal ball out! ;)
Come on Tom ... a bit more info might help!

            1871: RG10; Piece: 4003; Folio: 150; Page: 34 Down as Joseph

This isn't my tree, I'm asking for a family friend and these are the details he has given me. I am not 100% sure that they are the same family, but have only just realised this.

His family are the ones in 1871 for definate, as Martha is his gg grandmother.

Tom - does he have the birth certificate for Martha. The only one I can see on freebmd at the moment is Martha Ann White 1860 1st quarter - which means we should find her on the 1861 census.

These look like the births of the two oldest children shown in 1861:

                Births Dec 1852
                White Joseph Chorlton 8c 482

                Births Jun 1857
                White Jonathan Chorlton 8c 605

He says he has been unable to find the birth of Martha.

He has told me that she was Martha Hannah in later life though.

I think those are the ones he has. At least I know that he has the 1852 one and one other. They both give her maiden name as Daniels.

Martha Hannah White married James Wate in 1880 in Chorlton.

Martha Hannah Wiat married John Edward Richardson in 1888 in Chorlton.

                      (she was widowed)

What information does Martha give on her marriage certs about her father?

                            Who were the witnesses?

I'm afraid I don't know who the witnesses were.

On her first marriage he is given as Joseph Henry White, joiner.

On her second marriage he is given as Joseph Henry Wate, joiner. (Think this must be an error as White and Wate are quite similar)

So on the second marriage cert there are two mistakes: Wiat instead of Wate for her surname, and Wate instead of White for her father's?

This might be Ann in 1851:

                                    Class: HO107; Piece: 2164; Folio: 85; Page: 18

                                    Matching baptism:

                                    MARY ANNE DANIELS
                                    Female

                                    Event(s):
                                    Birth:
Christening: 05 FEB 1826 Warrington, Lancashire, England

                                    Parents:
                                    Father: JAMES DANIELS
                                    Mother: ELLEN

                                    Ooh, nasty.

There's a grandson with the family, presumably Mary Ann's child, and in the occupation column the enumerator's put "bastard".

I've also drawn a blank for White/Daniel(s) marriages in Lancs or Cheshire.
