  • Is it safe to upload updates from PC site

Since having this Latop back after another Motherboard being fitted its playing up badly, including not recognising me as the Administrator???
I was getting updates every day before this , now none .
Yesterday I went on to the Advent site and found quite a few updates for this model
Is it safe to download them ????
If so how do I know which ones to download as there seem to be quite a few.

Which Advent site Val ?? do you have the URL ??

Advent is a brand name used by DSGi on one of its ranges, and does not have a site of its own....

Any updates supplied by Intel are unlikely to resolve your 'Administrator' problem.. most likely they will not install because of it....

How were you notified of these updates ?

Hi I wasnt' notified , I have had a new Motherboard fitted twice on this laptop within a few months of each other the last time it was fine ,after this time it wont work properly. I have not had one update since it came back yet before I was getting a few a day. when I went to see if there were any updates on microsoft it wont let me do them as it says I am not the Adminstrator???
Also it keeps freezing or going back to a blank screen ????
Its Vista by the way if thats makes a difference ,
Is there a way I can become the Administrator again ???? thanks

TBH Val, speak to your warranty provider.... if the laptop has not been repaired to your satisfaction then they need to be notified so that they can either attempt to make the repair good or, alternately, provide you with a replacement.....

                  Val, try this...

Click on the round Start button, then "All Programs". In the list you'll see "Windows Update". Right-click on it, and there'll be an option called "Run as administrator". Click that.

thanks very much Dave that told me updates had been installed in the last couple of days ???? very odd as I usually get a message when I go to switch of saying ,installing updates dont switch off???
I've not seen that message at all lately .
I went back to PC World (sorry for swearing ) today and they said no way should it have had 3 Motherboards in less than a year and have told me to ring the Tech Guys to see what they can do as he thinks its more likely a power problem???
Thanks to you Lyn too. .
