  • Search for paternal grandmother

    I was pleased to get access to the 1911 census and found information about my paternal grandmother, it was her place of birth that I needed to confirm. I had hoped this would lead me to her birth certificate, her maiden name was Jean Alice Hudson and place of birth Cockermouth Cumberland. From the information I have (death certificate, 2 marriages certs, information from my father) it lead me to an entry 10b 535 Aug, Sept, quarter 1881 Cockermouth Jane Ann Hudson, would it be possible for an entry to be miss transcribed. I have applied for the certificate but it was rejected by the GRO as the 2nd name did not match, I do know her Father's name was William Hudson. I would very much appreciate any help or advice.

    Do you have an occupation for her father William - from her marriage certificate?

      Could you also confirm the approximate year of birth - you have put 1981 - do you mean 1881 or 1891?

        Is she the one who married in London? (sorry, I looked this up earlier and have forgotten where it was now!)

        Do you have witness names form the marriage certs?

        Do you know if she said she was born specifically in Cockermouth on the 1911 census?

            The BMD Ref you quote 10b 535 is correct for Jane Ann, can't find a Jean Ann in that area. you say her father was William, there is a family living at Caldbeck which is about 8-9 miles away from Cockermouth, Jane is wrongly transcribed as Tomas (on ancestry) on the Genealogist it is transcribed as Jane Hannah, the ref is

            RG12; Piece: 4299; Folio 58; Page 9;
