Pin the Favorites Center?

Another Vista query -
When I click on that little yellow star the favourites / history thing opens up, but when I want to close it again, the only way I can find to do it is first to click on a little green arrow called "Pin the Favorites Center" and then when I've done that, the X appears that I can click to close it. Am I missing a one-click way of closing it? And what is this "Pin the Favorites Center" for, anyway, please?

I just remove my cursor away from the list and left-click away from it. It then disappears.

Apparantly you have to click on the star again to close it. It acts as a toggle.

If you click 'Pin the Favorites Centre', it makes it a permanent part of your web browser and anchors it in the viewing window. If you want to get rid of it, you then click the close button in the top r-hand corner.
