Jennie, does it really say "Ms A Roberts" on the marriage cert? Only the title "Ms" wasn't used that long ago so it seems more likely that it says "MS Roberts", i.e. Maiden Surname Roberts, so I'm not sure where the "A" comes into it? Does it not give her first name? Is there any way you could post up the bit of his marriage cert that shows his mother's name if you can't quite make it out?KiteRunner

Hi Kite the certificate isn't in my belonging it has been kindly emailed to me but the image can't be seen so they have transcribed what they can from it. this is what has been written
Alexander Ireland 21 Labourer usual residence 60 Murray St Montrose parents David Alexander Occ Bleacher Ms A Roberts
Nowe the thing is when i look at other peoples who have done this part of the tree they all have Alexander Ireland and Isobel Urquhart as parents, which doesn't add up as thats not the names on the certificate.Jen

Arh so i have read it wrong and read David as Slater grrrrr now why didn't i realise that hours ago.
So i am more than likely wrong to think it is this family then?
Now i just hope the people i have sent messages to asking how they got Isobel Urqhart can give me a good reason, i think this Scottish side is going to drive me insane.
Thanks Uncle John.Jen

So when their son (maybe their son) got married 24.06.1864 his father was a Bleacher from which i can work out from google is either a bleacher or cloth or flour or something to do with staduim stands. David would more than likely of been a fisherman bit of a strange jump in careers isn't it?Jen

It is to Jane Johnston/e I belive this is the right family though because on the 1901 census where my g grandad is he has siblings called:
Maggie who is 15 which ties in with the 1871 one you have got
As for Whilhelmina i have no idea where she went, i am going to have a look as on the 1901 census there are some children who are older but aren't on the census with parents so this might help a little.Jen

And 1891, still in Monifieth. Alexander is now an unemployed baker. But they are still breeding! Alexander aged 1 must be the one you are looking for.
