I have headphone sockets on my CD Rewriter and DVD ROM but I don't get any sound out of them, Are they Digital?

Nope James, they will be disabled within windows due to how Media Player works....

When you play a CD within windows, media player (or whatever) extracts the song from the CD at its maximum speed, then encodes it and plays it back... If you were to try and listen to it at that speed it would sound like gibberish..

You can set it to not extract the music in this fashion, so that it will then be played at normal speed, and be available via the headphone sockets on the drives.. However, this will then mean that you may need extra cables fitted internally to listen to CDs through Windows..

Personally I would ignore them, they are a throwback to earlier times when PC's didnt have enough power to extract and playback in real time..
