What do you think of Avast anti virus program?

I have just got AVG back up and running after trying to delete it and was wondering if Avast was any good. put this on general at first.

Hi Jamie, I've been using Avast for a couple of years now and find it very effective + it had a good write up and rating in the Which computer magazine earlier this year. Hi James,
I too have Avast as I found it difficult to install AVG with Vista. I am very pleased with it as far as I can tell. I am not certain how I would know if it found a bug, I presume that they would send me a 'pop up message'. No plans to change it at the present time.
It was also mentioned to me in the local Apple Mac store that I visit 'often' while they do not have much in the way of a Virus they told me it was an effective way to protect a new machine as they are getting more popular.

Avast has always been popular on the "computer forums". The latest AVG is causing quite a few problems so more are switching.

Avast also includes anti-spyware and rootkit.
