  • 1911 census mystery

    Hello

On the 1911 census it states that my GG Grandfather William Henry Cox had been married for 11 years.

He married my GG Grandmother in 1900 and she died sometime between then and 1908 and he remarried a new wife in 1908.

William and the first wife had 4 kids together the last being born in 1905 and the first in 1900.

Ive checked for marriages in 1900 between a William H Cox and have come up with 3 possibles.

Could somebody please do me a favour and see if there is a William Henry Cox on the 1901 census with a son named William Henry Cox with either of theses wifes - Edith Maud
    - Mary
    - Sarah

    Any help would be great

    Danny

Do you have a place of birth or age for William senior - also place of birth for William junior.

There is a William H Cox born 1872 Wolverhampton, wife Gertrude, son Walter aged 8 months - living with parents William Cox (b1835) and Margaret Cox (b 1836)

Ive checked the 1911 census and that family still show up so defo not mine.

            Thankyou for looking

I have a possible family but on the 1901 census the son is down as Walter but the fathers age and job is spot on (fathers job on 1911 was Brewers labourer)
Thewife on that was Gertrude and William Jnr later had a daughter named Edith Gertrude Cox.

Still not 100% though as son was down as Walter.

Just realised that the details of William Cox senior & wife Margaret match up with your earlier thread about the 1871 census.
The occupation for William H Cox b 1872 is Brewers labourer.

Do you want a transcription of this or do you have it?

Aye, with the earlier thread i wanted to see if any names matched up with future kids.

Im 80% sure that is the right family but i need proof. The Brewers labourer almost clinched it for me aswell as the age.

I will have to see if i can find a marriage between a William and a Gertrude in 1899/1900.

                            Thankyou Elaine

I cant find a birth for Gertrude Bayliss in the correct year in wolverhampton.

I will try just Gertrude and see what i can come up with.

There's an Alice COX marrying a John BAYLISS in 1898 - Tipton, St John
                              per West Midlands BMD.

Is there any connection between those first names and your lot?

Danny, I would say your best bet is to get the birth certificate of one of the children of the first wife to see what her name was. Especially since the fact that in 1911 he says he has been married for 11 years doesn't fit with his first wife having died, but also just to make sure you don't go down the wrong path since there are several people of the same name.
