    Hello

    Can somebody please help me with the details of this family on the 1871 census?

    This is off the 1881 census -
    William Cox, Head, mar, 46, Railway Lampman, b Liverpool
    Margaret Cox, wife, mar, 46, b Biddleford (sic), Devonshire
    William Cox, son, unm, 10, scholar, b Wolverhampton, Stafford

                The Christian on the 1871 census is female - so probably Christiana

                    By the 1881 census the children would have been 16,18 and 20 - certainly old enough to be living away from home and working.

                        Most of my female rellies were off being domestic servants from 13 or so onwards. It seems young to us, but in those days you needed children to find their own way asap. In some ways I think it would be a good idea to return to getting children to work (not exploitation though) if they aren't interested in school, rather than making them go until they are 18.
