MSN Messenger log in problem

I am having problems all of a sudden with my PC and cannot log in to MSN Messenger,I get an error code 80048820.
Also on one or two other sites I am getting a message about safety certificates not up to date or invalid.All this started happening about the time I changed to Firefox from IE when that scare was on. I have reverted back to IE and also done a system restore back to an earlier date,to no avail
Help required please to resolve this.It sounds like some of the registers may be corrupted but do not know of a free download software patch that will fix the problem.

Error Code 80048820 MSN Messenger Troubleshooting

A Certificate that has expired is because the person in charge of the website hasn't got round to renewing it. There is nothing you can do about, except tell them about it perhaps. They are generally OK and you should be able to use the site without any problems.
