  • Outlook express from XP to vista

Has anyone managed to copy outlook express emails and address book from a desk top XP PC to a windows vista laptop, please?

I have searched the internet and read that some people have managed to do it, and others state it is not possible. I do appreciate that in vista, windows mail has replaced outlook express.

    Thank you.

I exported my address book to my documents and then copied it onto a flash pen. When I was ready to use Vista I just put the pen in and copied the file back and was able to put it straight into CONTACTS which is the mail address book.

Not able to help you with the mail as I had so little that was important. I just did a copy and paste of any mail that I needed to keep. I also have kept my Hard Disk from my old machine so they are stored. Guess I would need a cable to copy them over (that may even answer your question). Good Luck.

Hi Joy, I wrote this thread a while ago, does it help?

Thank you, Margaret. I am not technologically minded, so don’t know what is a flash pen , though my other half recently ordered a memory stick which I found quite intriguing.

I have, to my amazement, been able to transfer favourites and some other things from the desk top PC, with a windows easy transfer cable. I have hundreds and hundreds of emails but at least I can go through them one by one to see if they are needed and print off what is essential.

Thank you, John. I shall have a look at that. Searching the internet, I have read forums where it has been explained how to copy emails but my poor retired brain couldn’t understand it

Thank you for that. I had read that, and thought I'd be able to transfer them with the windows easy transfer cable but a message appeared on the screen to the effect that the system would not take .dbx files.
