  • 1911 census thrown up more queries

I have a Minnie Macks ,who I am sure is really Miriam ,says Widow was married 7 years ,with child Charles Macks aged 3 born in Hackney
They are living in Devonshire Street Mile End.
Not only can I not find a death for a Mr Macks or a Marriage for them cannot find the Sons Birth.
I have searched a few years either way.
Now either she lied and was never married or am I just stupid ??? dont all rush at once

There's a possible marriage here (in a totally different area), but I can't see a death for Jacob:

    Marriages Sep 1905
    Boguslavsky Annie Hull 9d 535
    Cohen Barnett Hull 9d 535
    >> LANGOWSKI Miriam Hull 9d 535
    >> Macks Jacob Hull 9d 535

thanks Mary this is getting more confusing she is on my Great Great Grandfathers Death Cert as his Daughter the informant in 1914 so she should be Minnie or Miriam Rose before she married ?
I have just tried to post a image but it is too small as I have now noticed although it looks like Charles Macks she has him down as Daughter ???

The only Macks who would have been 3 in 1911 is Nora, born Halstead, Essex, in 1908.

Do you think the surname could be Marks? There is a Charles Frederick Marks born Pancras Mar 1908, and a possible marriage:
            Marriages Mar 1904
            Kishter Minnie Whitechapel 1c 330
            Marks Harris Whitechapel 1c 330
MICHAELSKY Sarah Harris Whitechapel 1c 330
            Woolfson Solly Whitechapel 1c 330

There are a couple of possible Harris Marks deaths in the right(ish) time frame but one maybe a bit old and one maybe a bit young. There seem to have been quite a few people of that name around! Anyway, just a thought.

Oops, just realised she's supposed to be Miriam Rose! There is a possible Miriam marrying an Abraham Marks, but her surname isn't Rose either. Sorry, got to get off the computer for now...

Sorry Kite got called away, I maybe presuming too much.
On my Great Great Grandfathers Death Cert the informant is a Minnie Macks and it says Daughter , he only had one Daughter still living at home with him in 1901 Miriam Rose unmarried ,his other Daughters were already married so I am assuming its her on the Death Cert???

Interestingly, this marriage is recorded on Yorks BMD (Yorkshire Births Marriages & Deaths) as having taken place at Hull Western Hebrew Congregation - but the groom's surname is given as MARKS.

Probably not relevant, but there is a Minnie Rose marrying an Alfred Holmes in 1907, in Leeds this time!

In script, MARKS and MACKS could look very similar. And - given the problems of anti-semitism it has not been unusal for Jewish people to localise their names, or otherwise disguise the Jewishness.

Val, are you sure her surname on the death certificate is Macks and not Marks?

it really does look like that yes Kite, but got me wondering if maybe the registrar wrote it down wrong ?
Wish somebody could look at the census record.

I think I was trying to suggest that the name may have started off as MARKS, but been modified to MACKS.
