  • Ernest Gorton missing 1891, 1901

Ernest married my great-aunt Ruth Gray in 1909. According to their marriage cert his father's name was Charles Gorton and he was a retail confectioner.

Ernest and Ruth are on 1911 census with daughter Eleanor, living near Truro. According to the sheet, Ernest is working as a chauffeur domestique [sic] and was born in Shepherds Bush.

I've found a birth ref for Fulham Apr-May-Jun 1881, but can't find Ernest with or without his father on 1891 or 1901.

    Any help gratefully received.

Thank you. Why didn't I think of Earnest?! I see he has a sister called Eleanor, which is presumably why he named his daughter Eleanor too.

I looked for Gortons in Fulham in 1881 first. Charles was nearby, but a cowkeeper, so I didn't hold out much hope to start with!!!

Yes I found the cowkeeper and had some doubts.

Still, husband's gt grandfather changed in one year from a wharf labourer to a confectioner and then 2 years later was working as a mineral water travelling salesman, so who knows!

Thank you! I'd tried the obvious, like Corton or Gordon!
