  • Help with Cheshire placename

    1851 census: HO107 Piece 2186 Folio 428 Page 15

The second household (Humphreys). Please can you make out the occupations and birthplaces, particularly the birthplace of Ann Reid. I can read Cheshire but the placename has me stumped.

I think the occupations for the family are Corn Porter, Blockmaker, Scholar, Mariner

I think the first one is Duddon but I am struggling with the last one beginning with B

List of Cheshire parishes on Genuki doesn´t help much!

Sorry, just back from playing catch-up with Have I got News. I'm not very good at cutting and pasting images.

Sorry Uncle John - me neither but I have sent a link to photobucket (of the 1851 image) to Jean by PM - hope this helps.

I am not very good at deciphering but got out my trusty magnifying glass and come up with
Duddon - located between Tarporley & Chester / Barrow - Tarvin -Chester
                  Ashton - Frodsham area
                  Netherton - Frodsham

                  all above in Eddisbury Hundred.

From a distance I would have said Ann was Budworth however close up I am not so sure but there doesn't seem any other likely place.
this site has some information on Budworth (Great)
Northwich, History & Life Among the Residents: 1828-1892
Budworth usually referred to Great Budworth.
however there is a Little Budworth as well which is now in the Tarporley area but was classed Winsford/Northwich area :(

Thank you very much, Ann. I'll go with Budworh and see if I can find her on another census.

Found some of them in 1871:

Off out now but I'll come back to it later.
