The first letter looks very much like the T of Townsend in the address.

Does that part of the family have Jewish connections? It looks as if it could be Yentil, once the downstrokes from Stephen have been eliminated.

looks like Yratie to me, so I'm not much help. We may need an expert on Irish names.

If I'm right , it certainly demonstrates the problems encountered by transcribers!

That Katie could be rendered as Yentil, or Tra..., or Yratie, really makes the point.

Actually... I suppose it makes the point even more if she turns out not to have been Katie! That would be another wrong possibility to add to the list.

PS - Yes - I'd should be grateful to know what her name turns out to be, now that I'm intrigued!

Doesn't look much like Katie to me!

I was wondering if it was her father Patrick but he had written it in the Irish way and the clerk had not been able to read it properly himself and just made a stab at it.

I have seen fancy capital K's that shape in other documents. And the person who wrote out the certificate was given to big loopy flourishes above other capital letters.

Could it be Trotie? I googled for that and it does seem to be a surname.

                                        Nah its defo not Trotie.

If Irish family history was the same as english family history im 100% sure that this would be wrapped up lol.
