  • Looking for the Hyde family in 1851

I am trying to find the Hyde family in 1851 (as the title suggests ;))

In 1841 they are in Witham, Essex (HO107; Piece 343; Book: 17: District: 5; Folio: 19; Page: 32)

    William Hyde age 30
    Martha Hyde age 30
    Sarah Hyde age 8
    William Hyde age 6
    Euphemia Hyde age 2

I have found William (jr) in 1851 living with his aunt and uncle Hannah & John Youngman
    Martha dies in 1852
    Euphemia marries in 1864

    Any help much appreciated

Thanks Elaine, I didn't even think to search that way - I need to get back into the swing of things, I have forgotten all the tricks to searching

Occupation looks like Brush Maker ......... I think

Yes, I think you are right - which probably makes my guess at the 1841 census a bit out!

I think you are right. It was the "m" that was confusing me!

              Hi Vicki

I joined this forum specifically to reply to your post about William Hyde. William is an ancestor of mine. The younger William married Susan Julia Morris in 1857. Their daugher Julia Hannah Hyde (born 1859) is my great, great grandmother - specifically my mother's mother's mother. Happy to share what information I have, although their are some gaps around William father and son. There is a family legend that William junior - who died in his 30s - was murdered at sea by Chinese pirates, but I have not yet been able to substantiate this.

I am interested to know your links to the family.

              Best wishes

              Charles
